With the growing number of beginners billiards players entering the sport, many tools are now available to aid them in their development of their new hobby. However, with all the manuals, instructional videos and books that are available today, the most important factor in your development as a billiards player is practice.

Good players have spent countless hours practicing the shots that seem to come naturally to them. Random and trick shots don’t necessarily help a beginner become better, so the choice of practice shots can be very important in your game development. Many beginners choose to practice low percentage shots that may look good if made, however, don’t improve their overall game. Instead, a novice practice session should consist of angles that are often seen wrong, hard and soft shots, remembering to plan ahead a least 3 balls, and even the shot that cost them the last match. Experimenting with rail shots, banks, sidespin, drawing and jumping can also prove to be extremely valuable where a player’s growth is concerned. Practicing in a progressive manner that leads to more challenging shots is the key in development. Remember that shooting consistently is what separates the beginners from the professional. Start off with an easy shot and slowly make the next step a shot that is a little more difficult. Each step should consist of approximately 15-20 reps or until a person is fairly confident in the skill of that particular shot. Each player eventually develops their own style that is unique to them which includes stance, hand placement and cue stick grip. This is a game that is not based on speed and strength so remembering that a relaxed approach to the game will greatly improve your overall skills as a billiards player. However, the best way to stay relaxed during stressful matches and shots is to feel confident in your abilities which can only be achieved through hours of practice. Beginners billiards is full of challenges and setbacks which can be frustrating at times. But by remembering that this game can be a great way to relax, build confidence and meet new people, this new hobby can easily turn into a passion. So remember to practice, relax and most importantly have fun. Beginners Billiards. Click Here for Details.
